The metamorphic rocks, which are exposed in the Tapas Islands, constitute of a continental crust originating from the northern Australian margin of Papua New Guinea of Irian Jaya and Pacific Sea Plates.

Based on mineralogy selection, these rocks comprise pelites, calcarelous pelites, metabasites and hornblende-rich rocks. These rocks are a regional metamorphic rocks type with greenchist to amphibolites fasies
